What Do the Coffee Experts Really Think about Motif Roasters?
Eoin VincentAs a coffee roaster, I often wonder how I'm really doing. Everyone has been incredibly complimentary about my coffee, but what do the coffee experts think? The ones who taste hundreds of coffees and know every nuance that separates good from great?
A few weeks ago, I decided to find out. I submitted our Motif Morning Blend to Coffee Review, the independent coffee evaluation organization founded by Kenneth Davids. Some of you might know Kenneth from his book "21st Century Coffee: A Guide" – he's basically coffee royalty.
Coffee Review has been the gold standard for professional coffee evaluation since 1997. Their expert cuppers evaluate everything from aroma and flavor to body and finish using a rigorous 100-point scale. Scores in the 90s are exceptional, 80s are very good, and anything below 80 needs work.
I'll be honest – submitting was nerve-wracking. It's one thing to have customers tell you your coffee is amazing, but having industry professionals scrutinize your work? That's a whole different level.
Well, the results are in, and I'm excited to share them with you.
Their, Blind Assessment
“Deeply sweet, chocolaty and nut-toned. Baking chocolate, almond brittle, freesia, date, cedar in aroma and cup. Sweet-toned structure with gentle, round acidity; smooth, satiny mouthfeel. Chocolaty, nut-driven finish with undertones of freesia and date.”
Giving it a 93 and when you look at the breakdown it feels even more awesome.
Aroma: 9
Acidity/Structure: 8
Body: 9
Flavor: 9
Aftertaste: 8
